A study released by the Policy Research Institute for Equitable Development (PRIED) outlines how Pakistan can better manage its massive influx of distributed solar power through community-driven "swarm grids". With over 50 GW of imported solar modules now in the country, millions of individual rooftop systems function as isolated units rather than coordinated energy assets. The report highlights that digitally networked swarm grids would allow neighborhood clusters and businesses to trade and share localized solar generation and battery storage dynamically, offering a scalable path to reduce localized load-shedding and brownouts.
Global Solar Council Urges Pakistan to Build Panel and Battery Recycling Ecosystem
Global Solar Council (GSC) Chief Executive Sonia Dunlop has advised Pakistan to begin establishing a formal solar panel and battery recycling industry. Dunlop noted that Pakistan’s consumer-driven solar boom presents a prime opportunity to build a local circular economy. Setting up recycling infrastructure early will allow the country to process end-of-life solar equipment safely while recovering valuable raw materials for reuse in domestic manufacturing and energy storage projects.
